Artist Books

Description

I am curious by nature and love to learn anything about art which I do not know. Never hearing about Artist books until my junior year of college I was hooked the moment I'd seen the gallery show of the work. Of course, I wanted to take a class and learn how to make my own artist books. The opportunity came to me during my senior year of school. I was thrilled and still am years after taking the class. If you love art or love arts & crafts you should learn all you can about artist books. Smiles.

These are my artist books created my senior year of college in the class by the same name. There are six books shown here in all; the fold, pamphlet, codex, hexagon, flag, and lotus.

These are some of the basic forms that Artist Books can appear as. There are a lot of others that we were quickly shown but did not create. One example would be the pop up book. In reality, each artist expands their own idea of what an artist book should look like and new forms are
created often.

The book has become an expressive artistic medium. This is true whether the book combines images with text, or consists solely of images, or contains text only. There are a variety of binding techniques, which can be explored and integrated with appropriate soft and hard cover book structures. The term book arts refers to all types
of handcrafted books, including blank books, rebinds, albums, journals, and artists books. Artists books are those that combine the method used for binding, shape and style of the book, visual images, and the look of the finished piece.
