God's Eye 10

This was made as a gift for my grandma Anna. She passed away last year and it hangs now in my mothers room.

I learned to make Gods Eye's in 6th grade of J.H.S. I enjoyed learning arts & crafts so much that I continued it as a hobby.

Now I make these in various sizes mostly small and medium large. With the size changing the amount of yarn that I can weave which changes too. For the small pieces I only use three colors in a pattern. With the larger pieces I use four colors.

I make these as gifts for now and I do take orders and requests. I will be selling other God's Eyes in the future. Color pattern can be up to me or the customer. I will also be expanding my size range too.


Materials used:

12" x 13"
two round wooden sticks
yarn (New Primrose yarn pomp pons, Multicolored yarn {white, olive green, light yellow} outside)
hot glue gun used as adhesive
Camera used was SONY Zeiss Cyber-shot 7.2 mega pixels.


This work and others like it are called "God's Eye" which represents God watching the four seasons and directions of Life. These are 1960's wall hangings. God's Eyes or Ojo De Dios are an ancient symbol of South American Indian tribes. This is based on a traditional weaving.

Each piece includes yarn (assorted colors) and 10" wooden dowels. Though, they don't have to be that length. Kids age 7+ can learn this fun craft.

HISTORY / ORIGIN OF THE GOD'S EYE:
The Huichol Indians of Mexico and the Aymara Indians of Bolivia weave by colored yarn on a simple frame of crossed sticks to make a design called "Ojo de Dios" or "Eye of God". Originally, "God's Eyes" were made to be placed on an altar so that the gods could watch over the praying people and protect them. They are now more often sold in markets, reminding us that God looks with love on people everywhere.
